Hostetter Museum of Natural History
The D. Ralph Hostetter Museum of Natural History is home to more than 6,000 artifacts and specimens. Thousands of area school children have visited the site for educational field trips since it opened in 1968. Currently it is closed for renovations.
Our museum outreach program brings many of the same artifacts and hands-on experiences that had been available in the museum to area classrooms. Topics are listed below. Each has been aligned to specific Virginia Science Standards of Learning (SOLs) and designed primarily to introduce students to their natural world and reinforce key curricular concepts.
